Occasionally, an ordinary act is made significant by its association to something that followed it. An ordinary dinner becomes the last dinner, an ordinary event becomes the first meeting between two people, an act of reading an ordinary book sets a career path.
This set is our last one in a series of sets from Barcelona, shot in November 2017. Publishing it now completes that series and takes me back to one year ago, making me think and reflect on how much has changed in the last 11 month for DROYC Studios. For me, reflecting on the past year becomes a significant moment itself.
Back then our project was based on the crazy and naive belief that we could find a way to produce high quality nude art, pay everyone fairly, and make the art accessible to everyone for free. It was based on a strong and passionate ideology that nude art should not be hidden behind a paywall.
It is always hard to do something that has never been done before. There is no road to follow and every step is the first one on that map. We envisioned that the world where nude art is free is theoretically possible to create. To put it into practice, we had to have high quality individuals who shared our vision and who were ready to commit their time, money, or expertise to make it a reality.
No model has done more for DROYC than Katya Clover. We worked with many models and most of them love us and want to work with us again. But Katya always actively and passionately talks about us to other models, photographers, and fans. Her passion and belief in our vision made all the difference in how we see ourselves and the impact of our work.
Make no mistake, we get no discounted rates for shooting Katya. We pay her fairly every time, and she is worth it every time. A model’s income is her livelihood and we can’t build a sustainable system based on discounts and exploration of free work. Instead, Katya is helping us explore alternative sources of funding by actively promoting us on her Twitter, Instagram, and to people she meets in person.
Frank Pool contacted us in May 2018 after Katya Clover posted a Tweet to support DROYC’s Patreon page. Frank is now DROYC’s official first donor with a total contribution of $375 and counting. It is a lot of money to give away to someone you’ve never seen before and I greatly admire Frank’s generosity. Clearly, it is not enough money to fund a production, as one may run up to $2,000. But it is a great contribution to post-production, website hosting and other running costs we have. Most important, Frank’s commitment to support our vision is an inspiring act.
Soon, after another post by Katya, we were contacted by a German businessman who wanted to fund more sets with Katya, covering our production expenses. This level of commitment and sponsorship is new to us and we are excited to explore it more. If we would get a couple of big sponsors and a dozen smaller donation contributing to our Model Fund, there is no limit to what we can do in the next 12 months. We could shoot more existing girls, we could reach new models and artists to explore creative collaborations, we could shoot in more exotic locations, and we could start pondering video productions. A year ago, we had nothing, and few people believed in our vision. ∆
